Welcome to Bucharest!

Bucharest (Romanian: București) is the capital and largest city of Romania. It has a population of about 2.5 million and has been the country's capital since 1862. It is the most economically developed city in the country.

Bucharest offers many museums, churches and shopping centers and boasts a wide diversity of different architectures, allowing visitors to relive the city's history. Many buildings have been completely renovated and there are a large number of cultural events.

The parliament building was designed to be the largest building in the world. It is now known as the Palace of Parliament, second in size to the Pentagon, and has become one of the city's prime tourist attractions.

The University of Bucharest is Romania's first higher education institution. Almost 100 000 students study in the capital city of Romania, in more than 20 higher education institutes.
